So I inadvertently locked the cat in the crawlspace all night because I didn't hear her go in, and didn't think to leave the door open anyway. I'm wondering if everything she's saying at me is swears or just 'oh god I'm so hungry!' I am such a bad owner.
And I totally just ended up washing all of my clothes with a package of Halls. So now they're all sticky and smell like menthol.
And it snowed.
*sigh*
I'm going to make an effort to make the rest of the day better, because it's certainly not gotten off to a fantastic start.

Drag Queens and Alien Babies
Mar. 22nd, 2009 04:53 pmThe Mount Royal Gender Bender was last night. It was, frankly, kind of a gong show. All the kings were there, prepared and on time (we've had punctuality beaten into us over the years). But we had no idea what we were really doing in terms of when we were performing or how long of a time-slot we had; the guy in charge of organizing the entire event wouldn't get back to Trevor, who was in charge of organizing the kings. The other people performing didn't even show up until eleven. It started at nine, or was supposed to. I think we actually started performing at ten, and there were about ten people in the audience. Half of them were drunk out of their minds.
The kings performed well, and so did the Rocky Horror people. I admit that after a while I stopped caring and just didn't want to be there. I've been kind of morose lately. A mixture of starting to get sick and some news from a friend that wasn't actually surprising, but I'm still somewhat bitter about it anyway. And I don't know why.
Also ended up inadvertently volunteering for the U of C Gender Bender. Now I have to pick a song and try and figure out when I have to be there. I'm a little excited for that one, I admit. It was an amazing show last year. There will certainly be people there, and apparently I need an audience to feed off of or I just kind of feel like an idiot.
Finally got to see my adoptive nephew yesterday, though. Two-week old Koda, who was quite grumpy and reminded me within five minutes of walking in the door that I am nervous around children. They're like aliens. Kind of cool, but totally from a different planet. Trevor is so good with him, though. It's totally adorable.
I've been home for two and a half hours now and I'm finally starting to feel warm. I can probably get rid of this before it gets worse and makes me miss school (or worse! A drag show!), so I'm not too worried. Just sort of sore and gross feeling. I'm just glad that I waited to get sick until after the Paper of Dooooom was handed in.
Also, about the snow? What the fuck. Thanks a lot, weather gods. I hate you too.
It's perfect for making snowmen, though. If only I felt up to it.

I spent most of Thursday night and yesterday morning working on my English paper. It is the second paper where I've actually hit and gone over (albeit slightly) the word limit. But it also meant that I couldn't go to the third Art Thing, which was sort of sad. It would have meant that I've hung out with Kait four times in the past two weeks. Never happens, that. Apparently a lot of people showed up to it, and it would have been fun. Oh well. I got my paper done on time, which is Important.
Other than that, most of yesterday was generally useless. I was stupid, and thought Artawearness started hours and hours before it did, and so I stayed at school the whole day. There didn't seem much point in going home if I'd just have to turn around and go back to school again. Anyway, I managed to read the assigned story for next week's English class, pay my ridiculous library fine ($35), and get out my books for my Modernisms Paper of Doom (due 19 March). Also hung out with Red and then with Tracy. I miss hanging out in the weaving studios. And still kind of want to steal that cone of bright fucking orange yarn. *sigh*
Artawearness was freaking amazing. I secured a seat just after seven, because I wanted a good view. Watched people for a while, sketched hot butch girls in my sketchbook. Caitlin McCann showed up and sat next to me. We haven't hung out in ages; we usually just wave at each other when walking through the school. Apparently we both share a love of early 20th century fashion. And hats. People started showing up in hordes just before the show was scheduled to start. Of course, it didn't start on time. That's almost expected.
It was the first time I'd been to Artawearness, and it was amazing. Although you couldn't understand anything that the MC was saying, at all. The pieces were hilarious, disturbing, beautiful, or some combination thereof. Just - amazing. (Some drunken ladies behind me like to loudly complain that they didn't understand certain works, which was rather annoying. Especially because the work that they couldn't understand - the silver one - was breathtakingly beautiful. I don't think you should dismiss something just because it isn't easily understood. Especially if it's art).
Next year, I'm so going to be in the show. I'm going to start now. Or really soon. It's going to be awesome.
I have so many projects I want to start immediately. It kind of makes my head spin, a little bit.
Today I am hanging out with Jen. Huzzah! Haven't seen that girl in far too long. Tomorrow I lock myself in my house and work on all of the things I need to work on.
